New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Tadi Lakshmi Narayan as the new Managing Director (MD) of Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited (HSCL), a PSU and subsidiary company of NBCC Limited. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been appointed to the post for a period of five years, with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, or till the date of his superannuation i.e. January 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Currently, he is serving as Chief Engineer (Civil) in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) since August 2016.

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported that Reddy was recommended for the post of CMD of HSCL by the PESB selection panel on August 17, 2020. He was selected for the post from a list of five candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel. The post of Managing Director in HSCL was vacant since June 13, 2018.

Reddy's new role and responsibilities

As Managing Director of HSCL, Reddy will be chief executive of the company and will be accountable to its Board of Directors, its holding company i.e. NBCC (India) Limited and the government. He also will be responsible for the efficient functioning of the corporation and for achieving its corporate objectives and performance parameters.

Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited (HSCL)

Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited (HSCL) is a subsidiary company of NBCC (India) Limited  (NBCC). The shareholding of the government of India in the company 49% and NBCC holds 51 percent of the paid-up share capital of HSCL. HSCL was incorporated under the Indian Companies Act, 1956 with the objective of creating in the public sector an Organization capable of undertaking complete construction of modern integrated Steel Plants. It diversified in other areas like power plants, mining projects, irrigation projects including dams and barrages, oil refineries, railways, airport, building and commercial complexes, rural roads, highways etc. HSCL is a MIniratna PSU in contract and construction and tech. The consultancy services with the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
