PSU Watch Bureau

The Central Equipment Identity Registry (CEIR) Portal will be launched nationwide by the central government on May 17.

What's CEIR?

CEIR acts as a central system for all network operators to share blacklisted mobile devices. It connects to the IMEI database of all the mobile operators.

What will it do?

  • Curtail the counterfeit mobile phone market

  • Discourage mobile phone theft

  • Protect consumer interest

  • Facilitate law enforcement authorities for lawful interception

How to block your phone's IMEI?

You can submit a registration form by using the website. For this, you need to file a report with police, get a duplicate SIM Card for the lost number from your telecom service provider, provide identity proof and mobile purchase invoice.

How does it help?

After the successful submission of blocking request, the user's phone is blocked within 24 hours. After the phone has been blocked, it cannot be used on any network across India. However, it does not prevent the police from tracking lost/stolen phone.
