New Delhi: Bhopal Singh has been appointed as Director General of National Water Development Agency (NWDA). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment on Tuesday. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as Chief Engineer of Central Water Commission (CWC). According to an order from DoPT, the ACC has approved his appointment on deputation basis, for a period of five years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till the age of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.

"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Bhopal Singh, Chief Engineer, Central Water Commission (CWC) to the post of Director General, National Water Development Agency (NWDA) in Level 15 of the Pay Matrix as per the 7th CPC, on deputation basis, for a period of 05 years w.e.f. the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till the age of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest," said an order from DOPT.

The National Water Development Agency (NWDA)

The National Water Development Agency (NWDA), was set up in July 1982 as autonomous society under the societies registration act 1860, to carry out the water balance and other studies on a scientific and realistic basis for optimum utilization of water resources of the peninsular river system for preparation of feasibility reports and thus to give concrete shape to Peninsular river development component of National perspective plan prepared by Central Water Commission and the then the Ministry of Irrigation. In the year 1990, NWDA was also entrusted with the task of Himalayan Component of National Perspective Plan. In 2006, it was decided that NWDA will explore the feasibility of intra-states links and to take up the work for the preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) of river link proposals under National Perspective Plan (NPP).
