New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Binesh Kumar Tyagi as Director (L&PS) of Shipping Corporation of  India (SCI). According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) he has been appointed for a period of five years with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, or till the date of his superannuation, or until further order, whichever is earlier. He is currently serving as General Manager in the same organisation. With his new assignment, Tyagi will replace Sangeeta Sharma, who took over the charge of Director (L&PS) of the organisation in December 2017.

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported when Tyagi was recommended for the post of Director (L&PS) of SCI on August 27. He was selected from the list of six candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel.

New role & responsbility

As Director (L&PS) of SCI, Tyagi will be a member of the board of directors of the organisation and will report to the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD). He will be overall responsible for the profitability and efficient operations of liner and passenger services.

Shipping Corporation of India Limited (SCI)

The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is a Navratna PSU with its headquarters in Mumbai. The company operates and manages vessels that service both national and international lines. The company was established on October 2, 1961, by the amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation. Two more shipping companies, Jayanti Shipping Company and Mogul Lines Limited, were merged with SCI in 1973 and 1986 respectively. SCI started out with 19 vessels.
