• Upadhyay has worked with GSL for around 3 decades

Vasco, Goa: (Defence News) BK Upadhyay is BE (Electrical) and started his career with GSL in 1991. During his long career of over 29 years in GSL, he has held various key positions in various departments and has made significant contributions in areas of ship construction, diversification of products as part of General Engineering Services, Corporate Planning, Business Development, infrastructure development and Ship Repairs.

Prior to taking over as Director (Operations), BK Upadhyay was at the helm of forwarding Project Group Deptt, responsible for increasing GSL's outreach into the global defence market. He had spearheaded GSL's export projects of 11 Fast Interceptor Boats and Damage Control Simulator and has hands-on production experience on Missile Corvettes, Offshore Patrol Vessels and Fast Patrol Vessels and other class of vessels.

On diversification front, Mr Upadhyay had played a major role in bringing new technologies to GSL through Transfer of Technologies and MOUs with reputed and established international firms. He has played a pivotal role in establishing GSL as a major producer of Simulators in Indian sub-continent.

About GSL

Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) is a Government-owned shipbuilding defence PSU situated in Vasco da Gama, Goa. GSL was established in 1957, originally by the colonial government of the Portuguese in India as the "Estaleiros Navais de Goa", to build barges to be used in Goa's growing mining industry, which took off after the establishment of India's blockade of Goa in 1955. In the wake of Portugal's defeat and unconditional surrender to India following the 1961 Indian annexation of Goa, it was requisitioned to manufacture warships for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.
