Rourkela: In compliance with the commitment given to the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), a Dry Fog Dust Suppression System (DFDS) has been installed within the stipulated time period in the Phase – II area of Ore Bedding and Blending Plant (OBBP) of SAIL's Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The system started functioning on March 24, in the presence of Plant's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dipak Chattaraj, Executive Director (Works) PK Dash, Chief General Manager (OBBP) Aurobinda Mishra, Chief General Manager (Utility & Environment) AC Sarkar were also present on the occasion.

It has a wide network of dedicated conveyor belts to transfer the raw materials for the steelmaking process. Earlier, there was a system to control the dust generated during the transportation of Raw Materials at Base Mix Preparation and dispatch units

It is worth mentioning here that OBBP Department of RSP handles the raw materials coming from different mines. It has a wide network of dedicated conveyor belts to transfer the raw materials for the steelmaking process. Earlier, there was a system to control the dust generated during the transportation of Raw Materials at Base Mix Preparation and dispatch units. However, the system of local spraying was old and was not adequate to handle the increased dust. The New System has been installed at the Base Mix preparation and dispatch area in OBBP for effective containment of dust.

Notably, the new facility will help in reducing the particulate matter concentration in ambient air. It will also enhance the working environment and ensure better equipment availability.
