New Delhi: Vartika Shukla is now set to become the first woman Chairperson & Managing Director (CMD) of Engineers India Limited (EIL), a PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), as the government has approved her appointment on August 31. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved her appointment for the post. She was recommended for the CMD's post of EIL by a Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on April 23.

According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), she has been appointed to the post for a period with effect from the date of the assumption of charge of the post till the date of her superannuation, i.e. February 28, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. She is currently serving as Director (Technical) in the same organisation since August 1, 2020.

PSU Watch was the first to report Shukla's appointment to EIL's CMD post on April 23. She was selected from a list of eight candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. 

Vartika Shukla holds a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and is certified with the Executive General Management Programme from IIM-Lucknow. She has a long association of about 32 years with EIL, which began in July 1988. She possesses more than 32 years of professional experience in chemical engineering. She has served in various positions at the organisation. She is a recipient of gold trophies at the 'SCOPE Excellence Awards' in the 'Outstanding Woman Manager in PSEs' category.

As the CMD of EIL, Shukla will be the chief executive of the corporation and will be accountable to its board of directors and the government and shareholders. She will also be responsible for the efficient functioning of the corporation for achieving its corporate objectives and performance parameters.
