IEMF steering panel will consist of 6 ministries, IITs, FICCI, CII, & think tanks: Niti Aayog

New Delhi: The India Energy Modelling Forum (IEMF), whose formation was announced under the US-India Strategic Energy Partnership on July 2, will be governed by a steering committee which will consist of representatives from various ministries, industry associations, academic institutions and policy research organisation and think tanks, said Niti Aayog in an official statement. The forum will be convened by Niti Aayog and will be headed by its CEO Amitabh Kant. "Part of the Sustainable Growth pillar of the US-India Strategic Energy Partnership (SEP), IEMF aims to engage Indian researchers, knowledge partners, think tanks and national and international government agencies and departments for modelling and long-term energy planning," said the official release.

The inter-ministerial committee, which will be part of the steering committee, will consist of top representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Department of Science and Technology. 

Other IEMF steering committee members

The other members of the steering committee are industry associations FICCI and CII, IIT-Bombay, Ahmedabad and Delhi and policy research organisations, think tanks and funding agencies like Prayas Energy Group, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, CEEW, CSTEP, IRADe, TERI, GIZ, DFID, WRI, PNNL and IIASA. 

"This committee will shortlist policy issues to be taken up for study and might form various taskforces, depending on the specific studies/modelling exercises to be carried out. The convener of this committee will be selected on a rotational basis for two years and will act as the interface between the inter-ministerial and steering committees and the working groups/taskforces. Prayas Group, Pune, will be the first convener of the steering committee," the statement said.
