New Delhi: Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited's (IREDA) Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Pradip Kumar Das had a meeting with V Senthil Balaji, Electricity, Prohibition & Excise Minister of Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday at Chennai. The meeting was aimed at discussing the growth of Renewable Energy in Tamil Nadu and offering IREDA's financing support for the state as well as private sector developers.

IREDA CMD briefed him on the company's recent accomplishments, important initiatives, and future plans for the RE sector's expansion in line with the Government of India's target of 50 percent share of energy from non-fossil fuels by 2030. During the meeting, Das reiterated that IREDA is committed to mitigating the climate change effects by promoting Renewable Energy generation in the country through financing support.

IREDA CMD stated that Tamil Nadu has a wealth of Renewable Energy sources such as Solar, Wind, Biomass, Biogas and Hydro, etc. Therefore, IREDA is keen to fund more RE projects in the state and explore opportunities for new and emerging RE technologies like Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen, etc.

Last year, IREDA has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO), for providing its technical expertise in developing Renewable Energy projects and fundraising.

Earlier during the day, CMD also visited IREDA's Branch office at Chennai and reviewed the various activities carried out by IREDA in the Southern Region. He also advised IREDA officials posted at the Chennai office to take up more activities for brand building and public awareness so that the stakeholders can have easy access of the benefits for the fastest RE development.
