Sambalpur: Keshav Rao has assumed charge of Director (Personnel) of Mahanandi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a Miniratna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal, on December 18. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as General Manager at Indian Telecommunication Service (ITS).

He was recommended for the post of Director (Personnel) of MCL by a Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on July 3. He was selected from a list of nine candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. With his this appointment Rao has replaced LN Mishra. Mishra has superannuated on December 18. Rao has more than 26 years of experience in Human Resource, Vigilance, Project Execution, Planning and Operations in the Telecom industry. He has served as a Director in the central vigilance commission from 2010 to 2015. He has also served as a chief vigilance officer of four organisations under the Ministry of Civil Aviation for about two years.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) is one of the major coal-producing company of India. It is one of the eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. Mahanadi Coalfields Limited was carved out of South Eastern Coalfields Limited in 1992 with its headquarters at Sambalpur. It has its coal mines spread across Odisha. The company has a total of seven open cast mines and three underground mines under its fold.
