New Delhi: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has produced 85.77 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the first eight months of the current fiscal i.e. from April 2022 to November 2022 which is 14.2 percent higher than 75.11 million tonnes of coal produced in the same period of last fiscal and is about 110 percent of the target set for the current financial year till the end of the November month.

Similarly, in the first eight months of the current financial year, NCL has dispatched a total of 88.96 million tonnes of coal to all its coal consumers including powerhouses, which is about 10.56 percent higher than the coal dispatched during the same period of the last financial year. The company is ensuring sufficient coal supply to the powerhouses and has supplied 80.49 million tonnes of coal to the GENCOS during the first eight months of the current financial year i.e. more than 90 percent of total coal dispatched to coal consumers.

NCL operates from 10 highly mechanized opencast mines hence it becomes important to remove the material above coal layers (Overburden) for coal production in the long run. The company has posed 26.14 percent YoY growth in OverBurden removal and has removed a whooping 283.93 million cubic meters of overburden. In the Month of November, in a watershed moment, NCL scripted history by removing the record overburden in a single day three times consecutively on the 24, 25, and 26 of November 2022.

NCL's Excellent performance is reflected through its double-digit growth in all physical parameters i.e. production, despatch and overburden removal. Also, this performance is significant in the backdrop of the upcoming winter season and continuously rising energy demand parallel to the economic growth of the nation. The company is in the progress to develop robust infrastructure, mechanization, etc, and has targeted Rs 1970 crore as a capital-expenditure in FY 2022-23. Till November month, the Singrauli-based coal giant had successfully spent over Rs 1500 crore much more than the targeted amount.

NCL is the Singrauli-based subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) and has been assigned the target of 122 million tonnes of coal production and dispatch in the current financial year 2022-23.
