Mumbai: Benchmark stock indices opened on a positive note on Wednesday. However, they are following a bearish trend. The NSE Nifty opened at 18,313.60 while the BSE opened at 61,843.36. After the trend reversal, the BSE reached 61,739.12 while the NSE dipped down to 18,241.80. On Tuesday, the BSE closed at 61,761.33 while the NSE closed at 18,265.95.

Stocks in action

As per the NSE live data, only 18 stocks are in the green zone and the other 32 stocks are in the red zone. On BSE, 13 scrips are in the positive territory while 16 scrips are following the bearish trend. Powergrid, Tata Motors, ITC, HDFC Bank are bullish stocks while State Bank of India, NTPC, Tata Steel are following the bearish trend.

Performance of markets worldwide

US stock indexes closed lower on Tuesday as investors grew more cautious ahead of a US consumer price index report and a meeting between US political leaders to discuss the debt ceiling. Investors will look for clues on whether inflation is continuing to ease following the Labor Department's consumer price index (CPI) report on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 56.88 points to 33,561.81, the S&P 500 lost 18.95 points to reach 4,119.17 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped by 77.36 points to reach 12,179.55.
