New Delhi: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between NHPC Ltd and the government of Himachal Pradesh recently for the execution of 449 MW Dugar HE Project located in Chamba district.

The Dugar HE Project will cost Rs 4,112 cr

The Dugar HE Project is a run of the river scheme on Chenab River and its estimated present-day cost is Rs 4,112 crores. The project will generate 1,610 MU in a 90 percent dependable year with 95 percent machine availability. The state will benefit by way of free power, local area development and employment opportunity for the people of the state. The project will bring all-round development and prosperity in the project vicinity.

The backdrop

The state Cabinet had decided to award the Duggar HE project to NHPC Ltd in July last year. NHPC has got the project for a period of 70 years, after which the project will revert to the state government with specified generation capacity, free of cost and free from all encumbrances. The announcement comes a month after the state-run company signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Assam state government for the implementation of 2,000-MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project.
