New Delhi: State-run NTPC Limited has declared its subsidiary THDC India Limited's 50 MW capacity in Kasaragod Solar Park in Kerala commercially operational on Thursday. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges, NTPC said, "In line with the Corporate Disclosure requirements, we wish to inform that based on achievement of approved norms and due approval; maiden Solar Power Project of 50 MW capacity situated at Kasargod Solar Park at Kasargod, Kerala of THDC India Limited (a subsidiary company of NTPC Limited), is declared on commercial operation w.e.f. 31.12.2020."

THDC's 50 MW project in Kasaragod Solar Park has PSA with KSEB

The power sale agreement (PSA) for THDC's 50 MW capacity in Kasaragod Solar Park has already been signed with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) on January 16, 2019. A tripartite agreement for the project was signed between THDC, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and KSEB on March 31, 2015 for the development of the solar power project. The contract for design, engineering, procurement and supply, construction and erection, testing, commissioning and comprehensive operation and maintenance has been awarded to Tata Power Solar System Limited on August 8, 2019 for 10 years.

The backdrop

With this, the commissioned as well as commercial capacity of THDC India Limited (a subsidiary company of NTPC Limited) and NTPC group has become 1,587 MW and 62,975 MW respectively. With a total installed capacity of 62.9 GW, NTPC Group has 71 power stations, comprising of 24 Coal, 7 combined cycle Gas/Liquid Fuel, 1 Hydro, 14 Renewables along with 25 Subsidiary & JV Power Stations. The group has over 20 GW of capacity under construction, including 5 GW of renewable/hydro energy projects.

The Kasaragod Solar Park is spread over 1,100 acres, with a total capacity of 200 MW.
