RINL-Vizag Steel bags ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ award for the consecutive year

RINL-Vizag Steel Plant has again been awarded ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ award by CII GBC in a national award competition

New Delhi: RINL-Vizag Steel Plant (RINL-VSP) has been awarded 'Excellent Energy Efficient Unit' award by CII GBC in national award competition for excellence in energy management, which was held online from August 25 to August 28 in recognition of efforts towards energy conservation at RINL. RINL also awarded 'National Energy Leader Award' second time for winning 'Excellent Energy Efficient Unit Award' consecutively for three years (Year 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20).

In a statement, RINL said that it has implemented various measures in the Plant such as increase in PCI (pulverized coal injection) system in Blast Furnace-2, Optimization of fuel rate in Blast Furnace, implementation of innovative projects (Argon recovery, Turbo blowers interconnection etc.) and waste recycling and implementation of the energy management system and harnessing renewable energy.

Taking note of this RINL's Chairman & Managing Director PK Rath lauded the efforts of RINL collective in making the company energy-efficient and winning the award consecutively.

RINL Vizag Steel

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd, (RINL), also known as Vizag Steel, is the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). RINL is the first shore-based integrated steel plant built with state-of-the-art technology of India. Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) is a 7.3 MTPA plant. It was commissioned in 1992 with a capacity of 3.0 MTPA of liquid steel. The company subsequently completed its capacity expansion to 6.3 MTPA in April 2015 and to 7.3 MTPA in December 2017. The company has one subsidiary, Eastern Investment Limited (EIL) with 51% shareholding. EIL further has two subsidiaries, Orissa Mineral Development Company Ltd (OMDC) and Bisra Stone Lime Company Ltd (BSLC). RINLproduces Rebars, Wire Rods, Rounds, Structurals, Blooms & Billets, and Pig Iron and the company also markets the resultant by-products like coal chemicals (Ammonium Sulphate, Benzol products, etc.) and Slag.
