New Delhi: Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has extended the services of Shipping Corporation of India's Director (L&PS) BK Tyagi, who is currently holding the additional charge as Director (T&OS), as Director (T&OS) of the company, said SCI in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Saturday. "In an order issued on July 23, the Ministry said that the present arrangement of the additional charge of the post of Director (T&OS) of SCI to Tyagi will continue with effect from August 1, 2021, till the approval of the competent authority is received in the matter," said the filing.

Tyagi has graduated from Meerut University. He joined SCI in 1990 as a Trainee Nautical officer. He has served onboard various ships in different ranks, including Master of the ships. In 2004, he absorbed shore office and served in the technical, vetting, chartering, fleet personnel departments in various ranks. "With 30 years of rich experience in various aspects of shipping, Capt Tyagi has an all-around professional qualification covering areas like Ship operations, Navigation, General Management, Shipping management and legal aspects," said the filing.

Shipping Corporation of India (SCI)

The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is a Navratna PSU with its headquarters in Mumbai. The company operates and manages vessels that service both national and international lines. The company was established on October 2, 1961, by the amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation. Two more shipping companies, Jayanti Shipping Company and Mogul Lines Limited, were merged with SCI in 1973 and 1986, respectively. SCI started out with 19 vessels. It gradually metamorphosed into a conglomerate with 80 ships of 5.9 million tonnes deadweight (DWT) with interests in different segments of the shipping sector.
