New Delhi: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) celebrated Independence day with patriotic fervour and gaiety on August 15, 2022. In the celebrations organised at the WCL headquarters in Nagpur, CMD Manoj Kumar unfurled the National flag. He inspected the guard of honour by the WCL Security Personnel, after which he addressed Team WCL.

In his address, Kumar briefed about the production, productivity, financial strength and various CSR initiatives undertaken by the company. While elaborating on the importance of coal in the growth of the Indian economy, he called upon the employees to wholeheartedly participate in nation-building by contributing to their assigned task of coal production. He mentioned that our people are our strength and with the combined efforts of all, WCL will meet the annual coal production targets. In his speech, he emphasised on the adoption of new mining technology and the assimilation of newer machines in the mining process. He revealed that on August 19, 2022, WCL will be awarded the first prize for 'sustainability' and the third prize for 'ERP Implementation' by the Ministry of Coal.

WCL's Director (Personnel) Dr Sanjay Kumar, Director (Technical/Operations) JP Dwivedi, Director (Technical/Project & Planning) AK Singh, CVO AK Shrivastav, Members of Steering Committee & Welfare Board, representatives of Trade Unions, HODs and a large number of employees were present on the occasion.

Thereafter, Kumar and other distinguished guests participated in a function at the Sanskritic Bhawan in WCL Headquarters. In the function, the employees' wards were felicitated for excelling in studies. Exemplary work by employees was also recognised and venerated on the occasion. On the parameters of coal production, productivity, despatch, quality and safety in mining operations, pench area was adjudged the best. The second prize was jointly accorded to Chandrapur and Wani North area while the third prize was won by the Umrer area. Wani area was accorded the special prize for its overall contribution.

The event was attended by General Managers, HoDs, officers and large number of employees. The event also comprised an orchestra which presented patriotic songs. The entire event was live webcast on Youtube and was viewed by large number of people in and around WCL command areas.
