New Delhi: With a strong emotional intelligence and soft skills, women have gradually started playing an important role in the non-conventional sectors, like coal mining, said Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), OP Singh, on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Tuesday.
Addressing at a session on “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” on the occasion of International Women’s Day organised by the Forum of Women in Public Sector (WIPS), Singh congratulated all lady officers and staff of MCL, and said, “Women have a strong emotional intelligence and soft skills, which enables them to take up multiple responsibilities at the same time.”
MCL’s Director (Finance) KR Vasudevan, Director (Personnel) Keshav Rao and CVO PK Patel also participated in the session and congratulated all the participating women employees on International Women’s Day.
“Of late, women have also started playing an important role in the coal mining sector, which otherwise was a no go professional area for them,” the CMD said, citing examples of women achievers in coal mining.
“Apart from executive and staff jobs in offices, we now have ladies taking up field jobs efficiently,” Singh said, asserting that women have made their presence felt in all segments of the coal mining industry.
Emphasising motivating the women workforce in the coal mines, the CMD said that MCL was committed to gender equality at all levels.
