New Delhi: A 56-year-old employee has died in a fatal accident that took place at ONGC's Jorhat asset in Assam on June 5, two sources aware of the incident told PSU Watch on Monday. According to the sources, the accident took place while a rig at Borholla fields was being transported from one well to the next. At around 11 am, during dismantling of the rig, an object fell and hit the ONGC employee, injuring him severely.

The employee was rushed to the Borholla civil hospital for preliminary first aid and then to the Jorhat Medical College & Hospital, where he was declared brought dead, said sources. The employee has been identified by sources as SJ Pathak, who was serving as an Executive Engineer (EE) with Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Questions sent to ONGC remained unanswered at the time of the publication. This story will be updated when a response is received.

The accident took place when rig E-760-10 deployed at BRAK well in Borholla fields was being dismantled and transported to the next well, BREA, said sources.

An official, who spoke to PSU Watch on the condition of anonymity, has claimed that there was no doctor available on site at the time of the accident, which is why the injured employee was rushed to a civil hospital for first aid. "Why was there no doctor at the site for providing first aid? Does it make sense to engage in high-risk operations without having a doctor on standby?," said the official.
