Rourkela: The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 15th August. Dipak Chattaraj, CEO, RSP unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade and took the salute at an impressive march past by 68 contingents at Ispat Stadium.

Wishing the Rourkelites on the momentous occasion, the CEO said, "Today is the occasion to pay our respects to all the patriots who had devoted their lives to India's struggle for freedom. The journey of our nascent sovereign Nation to become a superpower commenced on 15th August 1947. Our Steel Plant joined this voyage soon after as the first Public Sector Steel plant of the country established to contribute in the progress and prosperity of our motherland. It is a matter of pride that our steel was also used in the recent Chandrayan Abhiyan. We had supplied plates to MIDHANI where they were further processed and was sent for use in the launch vehicle of the Chandrayan – 2 spacecraft."

CEO spoke about the various endeavours of the Steel Plant in recent times in the field of production, environment management, safety, human resources, health care, CSR and other key areas. "We have to link every activity of ours to the interest of our Steel Plant and through it to the interest of the Nation. This would be the best way to celebrate this festival of freedom. Let's all walk together, think together and move forward together with a resolve to steer our country forward," stressed Chattaraj.

Students were awarded for academic excellence, while employees were awarded the coveted Nehru Vishista Karmachari Puraskar for their dedication and commitment to duty. Outstanding sports persons were also felicitated for their achievements.

Chattaraj also felicitated a CISF personnel who received the CISF Director General's Commendation Disc for outstanding service in the field of Industrial Security. The best performing contingents of the Independence Day parade were also awarded on the occasion. At a similar function held in Sector – 22 Mini Stadium, The CEO unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade and took the salute at a colourful march past. Here too he presented awards to the best contingents of the parade.
