AAI’s Pune Airport to get new terminal building with enhanced capacity

• Pune Airport is getting a new terminal building, worth Rs 475 crore

• The new terminal will be able to serve 2300 passengers, 1700 domestic and 600 international, during peak hours

New Delhi: In order to cater to the continuous surge in passenger traffic and ease congestion at the airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has undertaken the construction work for a new integrated terminal building at Pune Airport. With a massive built-up area of more than 5,00,000 sq. ft., the new terminal will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 475 crore.

"The swanky new terminal building will be able to process 2300 passengers (1700 Domestic and 600 International) during peak hours. Equipped with five boarding bridges, 34 check-in counters and in-line baggage handling system, the terminal will be an energy-efficient building with 4-star GRIHA Rating," AAI said in a statement on Wednesday. 

To provide a delightful experience to the passengers, 32,000 Sq. ft. space for the provision of for F&B and retail outlets has also been provisioned inside the airport. Construction of a huge canopy on the city side of the existing building & new building is part of the project, which will give a magnificent look to the airport from city side. The project also includes the construction of a service yard of 3,800 sq. m, an underground tank of capacity 10 Lakh litre, Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of capacity 1130 Kilo liters per day (KLD), and landscape area of 12,000 sq.m on city side beyond the canopy.

To enhance the passengers' convenience, a Multi-Level Car Park (Ground plus three-storeyed +2 basement floors) with a cost of Rs 120 Cr is also under construction. With the parking capacity of 1024 cars, the facility will be connected to the departure area of the existing building with a sky bridge with the provision of escalators & an elevator at the building aside for dropping/ going up. The work for Multi-Level Car Park (MLCP) is likely to be completed by April 2022.

More than 40 percent of the work is completed and the new building is likely to be completed by March 2022. The revamped terminal building will enable the airport to handle growing passenger traffic and ease the congestion inside the terminal.
