ACC approves appointment of Amit Kumar (IPS) as OSD in SPG

The ACC has approved the appointment of Amit Kumar (IPS) as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Special Protection Group (SPG)

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Amit Kumar (IPS) as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Special Protection Group (SPG). He is a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Bihar cadre.

According to a DoPT order issued on June 30, Kumar, who is presently serving as Special Director General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been appointed to the post for a period with effect from the date of taking over the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

For facilitating the appointment, the government has temporarily upgraded a vacant post in the SPG.

Kumar is slated to take over as Director of the Special Protection Group upon completion of the tenure of the incumbent Director, Alok Sharma, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, whose tenure is scheduled to conclude on March 31, 2027.

The SPG functions under the Cabinet Secretariat and is responsible for providing the highest level of security cover to the Prime Minister and other designated individuals.
