New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a number of appointments and an extension involving senior civil servants and officials to key foreign and international posts at the Deputy Secretary, Director and Joint Secretary levels on Wednesday.
The appointments, approved on August 5, include postings to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, World Trade Organization (WTO), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as well as Indian diplomatic missions in Tokyo, Rome, Washington D.C., Geneva and Kathmandu.

Baldeo Purushartha, IAS (PB:2002), currently Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, has been appointed as Senior Adviser to the Executive Director, Asian Development Bank, Manila, for a three-year tenure, succeeding Ponnuraj V., IAS (KN:2000).
Rahul Jain, IAS (MP:2005), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has been appointed as Senior Adviser to the Executive Director (India), IMF, Washington D.C., for three years, succeeding Anand Singh, IAS (KL:2000).
Brij Mohan Mishra, IAS (AGMUT:2008), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has been appointed as Minister (Economic and Commercial) at the Embassy of India in Tokyo. He will take over following the completion of the approved tenure of Debjani Chakrabarti, IAS (OD:2002), on April 28, 2027.
Balamurugan D., IAS (BH:2005), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has been appointed as Minister (Agriculture) at the Embassy of India in Rome for three years, succeeding Jujjavarapu Balaji, IAS (AM:2001), after the completion of his tenure on December 29, 2026.
Satyajit Mohanty, IRS (C&IT:1999), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, has been appointed as Representative of India in the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Montreal, Canada, succeeding Angshumali Rastogi, IRSME (1995), after completion of his tenure on September 4, 2026.
The ACC has also approved an extension of Hemang Jani's foreign deputation as Senior Adviser to the Executive Director, World Bank, Washington D.C., for a further two years beyond July 16, 2027, extending it up to July 16, 2029, or until his successor assumes charge, whichever is earlier.
At the Director level, Kapil Patidar, IES (2011), Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, has been appointed as Adviser to the Executive Director (India), IMF, Washington D.C., for a period of three years.
Gopalakrishnan Ganesan, IRAS (2009), Director in the Ministry of Steel, has been appointed as Counsellor (Economic) in the Economic Wing of the Embassy of India in Washington D.C., succeeding Vivek Chaudhary, IES (2011), upon completion of the latter's tenure on August 15, 2026.
At the Deputy Secretary level, Aditya Rajendra Bhojgadhiya, IA&AS (2013), Joint Director at the National Testing Agency under the Department of Higher Education, has been appointed as First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of India to the WTO in Geneva, succeeding Ashish Chandolkar after completion of his tenure on September 2, 2026.

Jivisha Joshi Gangopadhyay, IRTS (2013), Deputy Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has been appointed as First Secretary (Legal) at India's Permanent Mission to the WTO in Geneva, succeeding Nidhi Srivastava, IAS (AGMUT:2010), after completion of her tenure on September 28, 2026.
Subhash Kumar, IDAS (2011), Director in the Ministry of Defence, has been appointed as Director at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal, succeeding Bhavesh R. Trivedi, Indian Telecom Service (ITeS:2000), upon completion of his tenure on November 20, 2026.
As per the DoPT order, the appointments have been approved on deputation basis for specified tenures and involve curtailment of the officials' ongoing central deputation under the Central Staffing Scheme, wherever applicable.
