According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on March 1, Seth will assume this responsibility following the relinquishment of charge by Tuhin Kanta Pandey (IAS). He will hold the additional charge until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Ajay Seth, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1987 Karnataka cadre, brings extensive experience in economic and financial policymaking. As the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, he has been instrumental in shaping key economic policies and reforms.

Seth holds B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA. He has over three decades of experience in the domains of public finance and social sector administration dealing with matters related to budget, tax policy, foreign investments, bilateral and multilateral financial cooperation, development financing, and public-private-partnerships.

The Department of Revenue, under the Ministry of Finance, plays a crucial role in formulating and implementing tax policies, overseeing revenue administration, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Seth's leadership is expected to contribute to the smooth functioning of the department during this transition.

Pandey, who previously held the additional charge, has been an influential figure in financial administration, particularly in his role overseeing asset monetization and public sector reforms.
