Ajay Tirkey (IAS) assumes charge as Secretary in Ministry of Women & Child Development

New Delhi: Ajay Tirkey (IAS) has assumed charge as Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) on Friday in New Delhi. Before assuming the charge of Secretary, He was holding the post of Special Secretary in the same Ministry. Tirkey is a 1987 batch IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. With this appointment, he has succeeded Rabindra Panwar (IAS) who superannuated on April 30.

Ajay Tirkey is 1987 batch IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. Before assuming the charge of Secretary, he was holding the post of Special Secretary in the same Ministry.

Background

He had worked as Joint Secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy in the Ministry of Human Resource Development in the year 2017 before joining as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women & Child Development. He has also been on deputation to the Ministry of Defence as Director and Joint Secretary from 2004 to 2009.

Tirkey was Principal Secretary to the Governor of Madhya Pradesh from 2015 to 2017 and has extensive experience of handling the portfolios of Medical Education, Labour & Employment and Rural Development in his home cadre appointments. He has been Managing Director (MD) of State Cooperative Marketing Federation (Markfed) of Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, he was the District Collector of Sidhi, Hoshangabad and Raipur.

In addition, he had worked in various capacities as an officer of Indian Administrative Service in Madhya Pradesh.

Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD)

The Ministry of Women and Child Development, a branch of the government, is an apex body for formulation and administration of the rules and regulations and laws relating to women and child development in India. The current minister for the Ministry of Women and Child Development is Smriti Irani having held the portfolio since  May 31, 2019.
