AK Sharma (IAS) assumes charge as Secretary of MSME

Arvind Kumar Sharma (IAS), who was serving as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), has assumed charge as Secretary in Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME)

New Delhi: Arvind Kumar Sharma (IAS) has assumed charge as Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) of Friday. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Starting the work on a war footing, he held a held important meeting with senior officers to review the work of the Ministry and discussed pressing issues especially in the light of the impact of Coronavirus (COVID -19) pandemic. Sharma has emphasized that the MSME sector is very crucial for society and the economy. Laying out his priorities, he has emphasized that after we have dealt with the urgent situation, we need to work on creating Global Champion companies from MSMEs, said a press release from the MSME.

Arvind Kumar Sharma is 1988 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Gujarat cadre. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as Additional Secretary, Prime Minister's Office (PMO)

Background

Sharma has held also worked in the government of Gujarat at various positions including field and policy level and has extensive experience of handling the portfolios of regulatory and developmental administration, disaster management, Corporate Management, industrial/investment promotion and infrastructure development.

Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME)

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, a branch of the government, is the apex executive body for the formulation and administration of rules, regulations and laws relating to micro, small and medium enterprises in India. The Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is Nitin Gadkari and the Minister of State is Pratap Chandra Sarangi since 31 May 2019. MSMEs, has given employment to over 120 million people in India and fulfil about 33.4 per cent of India's manufacturing output and 45 per cent of overall exports.
