New Delhi: The government has approved the appointment of Ameet Kumar (IAS) as Private Secretary to the Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC) Babul Supriyo, in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been appointed to the post at the level of Deputy Secretary for a period up-to November 3, 2024, i.e. balance period of his five years central deputation, with effect from the date of assumption of the charge of the post or on co-terminus basis with the Minister or till he ceases to function as Private Secretary to the Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is a government ministry. The ministry portfolio is currently held by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar. The ministry is responsible for planning, promoting, coordinating, and overseeing the implementation of environmental and forestry programmes in the country. The main activities undertaken by the ministry include conservation and survey of the flora of India and fauna of India, forests and other wilderness areas; prevention and control of pollution; afforestation, and land degradation mitigation. It is responsible for the administration of the 1947 national parks of India.
