New Delhi: Anand Swaroop (IPS) has been given an extension on his deputation tenure for a period of two years. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of Ministry of Home Affairs for extension in his tenure on Wednesday. His services as Inspector General of ITBP have been extended beyond March 8, 2020, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Swaroop's profile

Swaroop is a 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Uttar Pradesh. He is serving as Inspector General of ITBP since March 8, 2015. Hailing from Patna (Bihar), Swaroop has done masters in Economics. He joined IPS services in 1992.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is India's primary border patrol organisation with its border with China's Tibet Autonomous Region. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces of India, raised on October 24, 1962, under the CRPF Act, in the wake of the Sino-Indian War of 1962. The ITBP is trained in the Civil Medical Camp, disaster management, and nuclear, biological and chemical disasters. ITBP personnel have been deployed abroad in UN peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Haiti, Western Sahara, Sudan, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. Two battalions of ITBP are deputed to the National Disaster Response Force.
