New Delhi: Ashish Kumar Gupta (IOFS) has been selected for the appointment as Director in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Wednesday. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Gupta has been selected for the appointment under Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years, from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Gupta is an Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS) officer of 2002-batch. He was recommended for the Central deputation by the Ministry of Defence Production. He is currently working in the Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of Defence.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is a ministry of the government concerned with coverage and quality aspects of statistics released. The surveys conducted by the Ministry are based on scientific sampling methods. The Ministry has two wings, one relating to Statistics and the other Programme Implementation. The Statistics Wing called the National Statistical Office (NSO) consists of the Central Statistical Office (CSO), the Computer centre and the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO).
