Chhaya Sharma (IPS) set to be Director in CVC

IPS officer Chhaya Sharma, who played a very important role in the Nirbhya case, has been selected for appointment as Director in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)

New Delhi: Chhaya Sharma (IPS) is set be Director in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). According to an order issued on July 27, she has been selected for appointment as Director in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), Delhi, under the Central Staffing Scheme. She will hold the post up to July 26, 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Her name was recommended for Central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Chhaya Sharma is a 1999-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of AGMUT cadre. She had played a very crucial role in Nirbhaya case of 2012.

Sharma is an Economics (Honours) graduate from University of Delhi. She is a 1999-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of AGMUT cadre. She had investigated the PNL Nidhi Chennai scam and the Delhi Defence Colony bank van heist, among other cases. She also played a very crucial role in the investigation of the Nirbhaya case in 2012. Prior to the current assignment, Sharma was serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC). She is also the first Indian police officer to receive the McCain Award for Courage and Leadership in solving humanitarian and societal issues from the Arizona State University, US.

Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is an apex governmental body created to address governmental corruption. The Parliament enacted a law conferring statutory status on the CVC in 2003. It has the status of an autonomous body, free of control from any executive authority, charged with monitoring all vigilance activity under the Central government, advising various authorities in the Central government organisations in planning, executing, reviewing and reforming their vigilance work.
