Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain (IAS) gets tenure extension

Sudeep Jain (IAS), who is currently serving as Deputy Election Commissioner of India, has been given a tenure extension for a period of one year

New Delhi: Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain (IAS) has been given a tenure extension for a period of one year. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Election Commission of India for extension of the central deputation tenure of Sudeep Jain (IAS). According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the Cabinet has approved the extension of Sudeep Jain as Deputy Election Commissioner of Election Commission of India for a period of one year beyond December 21, 2020. Earlier he was given an extension for a period of six months, which ended on December 21, 2020.

Sudeep Jain is a 1994-batch, Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. He holds an Engineering Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS-Pilani). He has also done an MBA in Marketing from JNV University Jodhpur.

Election Commission of India (ECI)

The body administers elections to the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, state Legislative Assemblies, state legislative councils, and the offices of the President and Vice President of the country. The Election Commission operates under the authority of the Constitution per Article 324, and subsequently enacted the representation of the people act.
