Dr C Suvarna (IFS) appointed as Chief Executive in NFDB

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr C Suvarna, as Chief Executive in the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB)

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal for appointment of Dr C Suvarna (IFS) to the post of Chief Executive in the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB). According to an order issued on May 27, she has been appointed on the post on deputation basis for a period of three years with the effect from the date of assumption of the charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Dr Suvarna is an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer of Telangana cadre. She is currently serving as Commissioner in the Department of Fisheries, Government of Telangana.

Education & background

Dr Suvarna had completed Masters of Science in Agriculture from Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University and M Sc in Forest Management from Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun. She also had done Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Rural Development from Sri Krishnadevaraya University.

She has wide experience in working in different capacities at various levels (field, middle and policy levels) in natural resource management (NRM) and water sectors with the government of Andhra Pradesh and the government of Telangana. She had worked extensively with communities, international and national level organisations, and civil society organisations on participatory natural resource development and watershed management programs, common property resources (CPR), equity, self-help groups, poverty issues, and capacity building.

National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) 

The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) was established in 2006 as an autonomous organisation under the administrative control of the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to enhance fish production and productivity in the country and to coordinate fishery development in an integrated and holistic manner.
