New Delhi: The Central Government has approved the appointment of Gaurav Singh Rajawat (IAS) as Director in the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, under the Central Staffing Scheme. He is a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of AGMUT cadre.
According to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued on November 11, Rajawat, who was recommended for central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs, will serve in the post for a period of five years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The DoPT has also directed that he be relieved of his present duties immediately to enable him to take up the new assignment in New Delhi.
An alumnus of IIT Delhi, where he earned a B.Tech. in Engineering Physics (First Division), Rajawat also holds an LL.B. degree with distinction from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat.
Over his career, Rajawat has held several important administrative and financial positions across Union Territories and central ministries. He has served as Secretary (Finance) and Secretary (Revenue) in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Industries Commissioner & Secretary in the same territory, and Secretary (Finance) in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
Earlier in his career, he served as District Collector and District Magistrate in Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and as Deputy Commissioner in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. He also held the position of Special Commissioner in the Trade & Taxes Department, Government of Delhi.
Rajawat began his central deputation in August 2025, serving as Director of Census Operations (DCO) and Director of Citizen Registration (DCR) for Lakshadweep under the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was subsequently appointed Director in the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment under the Central Staffing Scheme.
