According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on May 27, Murugan will serve in the role for a period of five years from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The concerned authorities have been directed to relieve him of his current responsibilities immediately, enabling him to take up the new assignment without delay.

Murugan is a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. He brings with him over a decade of experience in public administration and governance. His appointment is expected to bolster the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation’s efforts in strengthening access to clean drinking water and improving sanitation across the country.
