An accomplished officer with a distinguished academic background, Pandey is a gold medalist in Psychology from the University of Allahabad. Prior to her current appointment, she served as the Divisional Railway Manager of Bhusawal Division and has held several key positions across Central and Western Railways. These include Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger Services) at Central Railway Headquarters, Chief Commercial Manager (Freight), Deputy Chief Commercial Manager, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, and Assistant Commercial Manager.

In addition to her extensive experience in the commercial domain, Pandey has also worked in the Safety and Vigilance departments, underlining her versatile leadership within Indian Railways.

During her tenure as DRM, Bhusawal, she launched Rudra, a ‘hospital on wheels’ initiative aimed at delivering healthcare services to railway employees and their families in remote locations. This mobile medical facility has played a pivotal role in ensuring timely healthcare access for underserved communities.

Pandey’s professional journey is decorated with numerous accolades, including two General Manager’s Awards, the Ministry of Railways Award for Excellence and Meritorious Services (2007), and the Women Achievers Award (2016). Most recently, she was conferred with the "Rail Mantri Rajbhasha Rajat Padak" on June 17, for her significant contributions to promoting the official language.

A trailblazer in her field, she was instrumental in implementing the first Unreserved Ticketing System in Mumbai. As a Claims Officer, she played a key role in facilitating compensation for the victims of the Elphinstone Road stampede — an exceptional case not covered under the Railway Act — without any legal mediation.

Pandey is also the author of “Riding the Freight Train”, a comprehensive book on freight operations over Western Railway. Her contributions earned her a spot among the “24 Bureaucrat Change-makers of 2024” in the Bureaucrats Annual List, recognizing her progressive leadership and innovative approach to enhancing both passenger and freight services.

Outside of her professional commitments, she is an avid marathon runner and became the only female civil servant to complete the Comrades Marathon in South Africa in 2023, covering a demanding distance of 88 kilometers in 11 hours and 47 minutes.
