Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas gets tenure extension as Secretary of DAE

New Delhi: Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas has been given tenure extension as Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission for a period of one year. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension in service of Vyas for a period of one year beyond May 3, 2021, i.e. up to May 3, 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He is serving as Secretary of DAE & Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission since September 21, 2018.

Vyas is a top nuclear scientist of the country. He had completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with first class from MS University, Vadodara. In 1978, he quantified as a scientist trainee of the most prestigious Training School of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. After graduating from BARC training school, he joined as a scientist in the Reactor Engineering Division of BARC.

On February 23, 2016, he was appointed as the Director of BARC for his outstanding national and international contributions in nuclear energy.
