New Delhi: Krishna Kumar Tiwari (ISS) has been selected for appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Election Commission of India (ECI). According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been selected for the appointment under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier.
Tiwari is an Indian Statistical Service (ISS) officer of 2011-batch. He was recommended for Central deputation by the Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation. "He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the Election Commission of India," the order further read.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is a permanent and independent body established by the Constitution of India directly to ensure free and fair elections in the country. Article 324 of the Constitution provides that the power of superintendence, direction, and control of elections to parliament, state legislatures, the office of the president of India, and the office of vice-president of India shall be vested in the election commission. Thus, the Election Commission is an all-India body in the sense that it is common to both the Central government and the state governments.
