New Delhi: Mahimapat Ray (IAS) has been selected for the appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs. He was recommended for Central deputation by the state government of Jharkhand. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training, Ray has been selected for the appointment on the post under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The order further said that he should join the post within three weeks from the date of issue of DoPT's appointment order.

Ray is a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service Officer (IAS) of Jharkhand cadre. He is currently serving as Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate and Collector of Bokaro District, Jharkhand. He is an alumnus of La Martiniere College, Lucknow, and holds a BA (Hons) in History degree from St. Stephen's College in New Delhi. He also did his postgraduate studies in Political Science with specialisation in International Relations from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. Prior to joining the administrative services, he lectured undergraduate and postgraduate students at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi.

As Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate and Collector of Bokaro District, Ray is responsible for the needs of 2.5 million citizens spread across 4,000 sq km. In the past, he has successfully ensured peaceful conduct of two General Elections, one being in India's most violence-prone Left-wing extremist district. Ray is among the youngest state-level master trainers for elections and has previously held the prestigious assignment of being the Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand.
