Nidhi Khare (IAS) gets additional charge as MNRE Secretary

Nidhi Khare (IAS), has been entrusted with the additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) with immediate effect

New Delhi: In a significant administrative development, Nidhi Khare (IAS), has been entrusted with the additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). She currently serves as Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

Khare is a 1992 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Jharkhand cadre. She has been assigned additional charge of MNRE Secretary with immediate effect till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders.

The development came a day after, former Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh (IAS) returned to his parent cadre following the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet's directive.

Profile of Nidhi Khare (IAS)

Nidhi Khare pursued her education in Dehradun and Lucknow, culminating in a Master’s degree in Biochemistry. Over the course of her illustrious career, she has served as District Collector in Madhubani, Jamshedpur, and Dumka and has held pivotal roles in the state and central governments. Notable among her contributions is her leadership in establishing the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) and spearheading significant advancements in land records management, consumer protection, and hallmarking for gold ornaments.

In her tenure with the Government of India, Khare played a critical role in implementing Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT), revolutionizing subsidy delivery systems, and promoting transparency. Her work in Jharkhand included implementing the Ayushman Bharat scheme, opening new medical colleges, and driving health sector improvements recognized by NITI Aayog. As Secretary of Health and Medical Education, she ensured a robust rollout of national programs.

Additionally, her tenure in administrative reforms led to streamlined processes for HR management and the empowerment of primitive tribal groups through innovative reservation policies. Khare’s career exemplifies a blend of visionary leadership and impactful governance.
