New Delhi: Prashant Ranjan (IRS) has been selected for the appointment as Director in the Ministry of Tourism. According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Ranjan has been selected for the appointment under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) or a period of five years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier.

Ranjan is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of 2007-batch. He had served as Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Noida, Nagpur, Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Ghaziabad.

Ranjan is a graduate in History and a postgraduate in Environmental Sciences. He is an alumnus of the 2003-04 batch of IIMC (English Journalism). He was recommended for Central deputation by the Department of Revenue. During his tenure in the income tax department, he has served mostly in the investigation wing of the IT department which conducts search and seizure operations across the country and was involved in cases like Madhu Koda and Yadav Singh.

The Ministry of Tourism, a branch of the government, is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules, regulations and laws relating to the development and promotion of tourism in India. It facilitates the Indian Department of Tourism. The head of the ministry is the Minister of Tourism, a Minister of State (Independent Charge), held by G Kishan Reddy since September 2017.
