RK Gupta appointed as Private Secretary to Piyush Goyal

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal for the appointment of Dr Ravi Kant Gupta as Private Secretary to the Minister for Railways and Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal. Gupta has been appointed as Private Secretary at the level of Director for a period of five years, with effect from the date of assumption of the charge of the post or on co-terminus basis with the Minister or till he ceases to function as Private Secretary to the Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Profile of Dr Gupta

Dr Ravi Kant Gupta is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of 2005 batch. He is a medical graduate (MBBS) from Punjab University and holds a postgraduate degree in management (PGDM), majoring in Finance & Strategy, from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow. During the course of the service, he had completed LLB from Mumbai University and Masters in Taxation and Business Laws (MTBL) from NALSAR University of Law.

In his career spanning 11 years as an IRS officer, he has worked in various capacities as an Assistant Commissioner Income Tax in the non-corporate and corporate assessment charges at Mumbai. He has served as Deputy Director Income Tax (Investigation), Mumbai, where he was involved in many key and sensitive investigations. For almost three years, he served as Director in National Health Mission, Haryana, undertaking many initiatives for improving the health indicators of mothers and infants in the state. He has also served as Joint Commissioner Income Tax (Transfer Pricing) in Pune, where he audited several cases of MNEs involving complex transfer pricing issues.
