Ministry of Cooperation gets first secretary in Sanjay Agarwal (IAS)

New Delhi: Sanjay Agarwal (IAS), who is currently serving as Secretary in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, has been given the additional responsibility of Secretary of the newly formed Ministry of Cooperation. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the assignment of the additional charge of Secretary of Ministry of Cooperation to Agarwal on Thursday.

According to the DoPT order of Agarwal's appointment, he has been given additional charge of the post with immediate effect and till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Agarwal is a 1984-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He has been holding the post of Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare since October 1, 2018. Agrawal holds Post Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering. He has over 34 years of experience in administration and public policy in the areas of women & child development, handicrafts/textiles, agricultural research & education, etc. in various capacities with the state government of Uttar Pradesh and the central government.

Ministry of Cooperation

The Ministry of Cooperation is a newly formed ministry of the government. The ministry provides a separate administrative, legal, and policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country. The ministry's creation was announced on July 6 along with its vision statement of 'Sahkar se Samriddhi' (Prosperity from cooperation). Before the creation of this ministry, the objectives of this ministry were looked after by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Ministry is currently being headed by Home Minister Amit Shah.
