Sumit Garg set to be Deputy Secretary in Pharmaceuticals Department

New Delhi: Sumit Garg is set to be Deputy Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Garg has been selected for appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) for a period of four years from the date of taking charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Garg is an Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer of 2010 batch. Prior to this, he was recommended for Central deputation by the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

Department of Pharmaceuticals

The Department of Pharmaceuticals was created on July 1, 2008, in the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers with the objective of placing greater focus and thrust on the development of the pharmaceutical sector in the country and to regulate various complex issues related to pricing and availability of medicines at affordable prices, research & development, protection of intellectual property rights and international commitments related to the pharmaceutical sector which required integration of work with other ministries.
