Both officers have been appointed under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Vineet Satyanarayanan Nair is an Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES) officer of the 2011 batch. He was recommended for central deputation by the Ministry of Defence. Madhur Agrawal, on the other hand, is a 2009-batch officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), recommended for the position by the Ministry of Railways.

The DoPT has directed the respective ministries to relieve both officers immediately so that they can take up their new assignments at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
