AAI Guwahati and UNDP upgrade Anganwadi centres

Guwahati: Airports Authority of India's (AAI) north-east region (AAI-NER), in association with UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), organised an inauguration ceremony of Sikarhati Anganwadi centres on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. It is one of the centres which was newly upgraded under the strengthening of Anganwadi centres. On the inauguration ceremony of 'Resilient Childhood,' AAI's (NER) Executive Director Sanjeev Jindal, The Energy and Resources Institute's (TERI), Northeast Senior Fellow SK Sinha, UNDP's (NE India) Regional Head John Borgoyary and the Headmaster, along with students of Sikarhati High School, were present.

AAI consideration is CSR for health and education

In a press release, AAI said that it has always been envisioned as an institution that promotes resilience-building of communities in the periphery of its airports. "With the same vision of building community resilience, AAI and UNDP have carried out a diagnostic study of the communities in the vicinity of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) Airport, Guwahati, in the year 2018, to understand the challenges faced by the villages. And then the two entered into a partnership under its CSR policy," a press release said.

These two are working on addressing development challenges like improving health services, education and reducing the drivers of vulnerability under a three-year community development project entitled 'Resilience Building of communities around Guwahati Airport' under the supervision of the District Administration, Kamrup. AAI has provided UNDP fund of Rs 45,778,727, to implement the project across 15 villages under three Gram Panchayats at Rani Development Block, the release added.
