New Delhi: Maharatna coal PSU Coal India Limited (CIL) on Tuesday said that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Shri Kedarnath Uthhan Charitable Trust, and will contribute Rs 19 crore for a road development project at Badrinath-Joshimath in Uttarakhand.

The MoU has been signed by CIL's Director (P&IR) SN Tiwary and the Tourism Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand Dilip Jawalkar at Dehradun.

One of the main features of the project is that the proposed road, besides benefitting 90 villages, will provide all-weather access to the village of Mana, situated at an elevation of 3200 meters and considered as the last village of India close to the Indo-China border. Betterment of road linkage is a precursor to the all-around socio-economic development of rural areas. CIL's last-mile road initiative aims to open a gateway of opportunities in the hinterland of the Badrinath hill region.
