CSR: MCL signs MoU for solar-powered cold storage units in Kandhamal, Odisha

New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has  signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with District Administration, Kandhamal, Odisha for the implementation of project ‘SURYANIDHI- solar treasure’. According to an official statement, this MoU will help MCL in furthering its commitment to promote environmental susta

Under its CSR initiative, MCL will provide financial assistance of Rs 60 lakhs to establish four solar-powered cold storage facilities in the aspirational district of Kandhamal.

These facilities are equipped with advanced Refrigeration, Temperature, Humidity controls upto 30 hrs power backup and capacity of 10 Metric Tonnes each which will ensure efficient storage of perishable produce. This will address the critical need for reducing post-harvest losses and empowering farmers to secure better market prices for their produce while promoting sustainable agricultural practices through renewable energy.

The MoU has been signed between General Manager (CSR), MCL and District Project Manager, Odisha Livelihood Mission, Kandhamal. Project ‘Suryanidhi’ is part of MCL's contribution to the Aspirational District Development Program of the Government of India and will uplift socio-economic status of farmers and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the region. This is one of the aspirational commitment of MCL to environmental sustainability.
