New Delhi: NTPC Limited’s Kanti unit on Monday launched the “Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2026” under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aimed at promoting education, confidence-building and holistic development among young girls from nearby villages.

The month-long residential programme, inaugurated by NTPC Kanti Head of Project Sanjib Kumar Suar under the theme “Empowered Girls, Empowered Kanti,” will run from May 26 to June 20.
The initiative has brought together 50 girl students from villages across Kanti Block, representing nine different schools. The programme seeks to empower participants through academic learning, personality development and life skills training.
As part of the four-week residential workshop, the students will receive free education in Mathematics, English, Hindi and Science. NTPC Kanti will also provide free accommodation, nutritious meals and study materials for all participants.
To promote overall development, the programme includes extracurricular activities such as yoga, dance, music, painting, sports and cultural activities. Computer training sessions will also be organised to improve digital literacy among the students.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Sanjib Kumar Suar said NTPC Kanti remains committed to the development and upliftment of the surrounding community. He said the Girl Empowerment Mission is aimed not only at improving academic knowledge but also at equipping girls with confidence and essential life skills required to become empowered individuals.
He further said that NTPC Kanti would take complete responsibility for the safety, learning and well-being of all participating girls during the programme and thanked parents, teachers and school principals for supporting the initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Additional General Manager (Human Resources) Maheshkumar Suthar said the programme would help bring transformation not only in the lives of the participating girls but also in their families and society. He added that after 28 days of learning and exposure, the students would return with greater confidence, awareness and self-belief.
The inaugural event was also attended by Deputy General Manager (Human Resources) Sanjeet Kumar and other senior officials of NTPC Kanti. Delivering the vote of thanks, Sanjeet Kumar expressed gratitude to the participating girls, villagers, parents, teachers and guests for supporting the initiative.
