MCL to set up Covid-19 care centre in Odisha

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has signed an MoU with the state government of Odisha for setting up a dedicated COVID-19 care centre in Jharsuguda, Odisha

New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, is setting up a dedicated 70-bedded COVID-19 Care Centre at Bandhabahal in western Odisha. The expenses for the treatment, medicine, testing, food and accommodation will be borne by MCL, as a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed by MCL's Director (Personnel) Keshav Rao, on behalf of MCL, and Collector of Jharsuguda Saroj Kumar Samal, on behalf of the government of Odisha, at Bandhabahal on July 17. This information was shared by Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik in a tweet on Saturday.

MCL has already set up two COVID-19 hospitals in the state. The first 500-bedded COVID-19 hospital was set up in Bhubaneswar and another 150-bedded hospital was set up in Talcher, Odisha.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) is one of the major coal-producing companies of India. It is one of the eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. Mahanadi Coalfields Limited was carved out of South Eastern Coalfields Limited in 1992, with its headquarters at Sambalpur. It has its coal mines spread across Odisha. The company has a total of seven open cast mines and three underground mines under its fold.
