New Delhi: Union Minister of Heavy Industries Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey has laid the foundation stone of toilet complexes at twelve locations in Varanasi and Chandauli. The complexes are being built with the support of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) as part of its CSR program. BHEL's Director (Power) Upinder Singh Matharu, Independent Director Manish Kapoor and senior officials of BHEL and Sulabh International were present on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister said that with such efforts, the country will achieve the Prime Minister's vision of 'Namami Gange' and 'Swachh Bharat'. The completion of this project will help solve the problem of open defecation in the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Matharu said that under the able guidance of the Hon'ble Union Minister, BHEL is contributing significantly towards 'Namami Gange' and 'Swachh Bharat' initiatives.

BHEL is providing financial assistance to Sulabh International, the implementing agency for the construction, operation and maintenance of the toilet complexes at 12 locations, out of which six each will be built at Varanasi and Chandauli respectively. The construction of the complexes will be completed in around six months.

Varanasi and Chandauli are important pilgrimage centres with lakhs of devotees visiting these centres every year, and the level of sanitation, cleanliness and hygiene will improve considerably with the construction of these toilet complexes.
